MBW Calibration AG
MBW manufactures, supplies, installs and supports systems for the calibration of humidity and temperature instruments. Existing customers include most National Metrology Institutes and many National Meteorological and Hydrological Services. Training on system operation, installation, commissioning and uncertainty calculation complete the supply and support options available from MBW.
MBW is ISO17025 accredited for the calibration of humidity and temperature, with uncertainties as low as ±0.03 K dew point (k=2). This means that instruments can be delivered ready for immediate use in calibration or inter-comparisons.
Chilled mirror dew point hygrometers are used as references in calibration and test applications. Most operational humidity probes are sensor based, and they must be calibrated regularly to provide precise data. Dew point mirrors are used by RH probe manufacturers for factory calibration, and by calibration laboratories for re-calibration because of their fundamental precision and long term stability.
MBW dew point mirrors are used at most of the world’s leading National Metrology and Meteorological institutes, and have been selected for most International Key Comparisons.
To calibrate humidity instruments, you need to apply different humidity conditions to validate that the instrument under test responds correctly. Humidity generators fulfil this function and work in combination with a reference hygrometer to form a calibration system. MBW supplies and supports many types of humidity generator, including the classic Thunder Scientific model 2500 that can generate 10…98%rh over a -10…+70 °C temperature range.
Reference hygrometers and humidity generators should be calibrated periodically, ideally by an ISO17025 accredited laboratory. MBW provides calibration services for humidity and temperature with low uncertainty for all types of instruments, either at the MBW laboratory in Switzerland, or on-site.
Our highly experienced technical commercial team have a combined experience of 80 years specialising in humidity and temperature measurement and calibration. We can provide advice on improving the performance of existing systems and suggest upgrades to meet the increasingly demanding requirements for measurement accuracy and traceability.
MBW is the Swiss Designated Institute for Humidity, so maintains the Swiss National Standard for humidity and participates in key comparisons internationally. Information and examples can be found at the BIPM website.
